The legendary Berwyn/Chicago-based classic horror film host will present his big broadcast of the classic mammoth Universal horror-comedy masterpiece, “Abbott and Costello Meet Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde” (1953); this Sat., Sept. 11 at 8 p.m. Eastern/7 p.m. Central on Me-TV.
The 1953 classic mammoth Universal/Abbott & Costello comedy-horror masterpiece was directed by veteran director Charles Lamont. Lamont also worked on “Abbott and Costello in the Foreign Legion” (1950, alongside Bud and Lou with Patricia Medina, Walter Slezak, Douglass Dumbrille and Tor Johnson), “Bud Abbott and Lou Costello Meet the Invisible Man” (1951, alongside Bud and Lou with Nancy Guild, Arthur Franz, Adele Jergens, William Frawley of “I Love Lucy” and the first five seasons of “My Three Sons” fame and future television producer Sheldon Leonard), “Abbott and Costello Meet Captain Kidd” (1952, for Warner Bros. in the Super Cinecolor process; alongside Bud and Lou with with Charles Laughton, Hillary Brooke, Leif Erickson and Fran Warren), “Abbott and Costello Meet the Keystone Kops” (1955, alongside Bud and Lou with Fred Clark, Lynn Bari, Maxie Rosenbloom, Roscoe Ates and legendary pioneering silent screen comedian Mack Sennett) and “Abbott and Costello Meet the Mummy” (1955, the duo’s final feature film and final feature for Universal; alongside Bud and Lou with Eddie “Edwin” Parker, Marie Windsor, Michael Ansara and Richard Deacon, later of “The Dick Van Dyke Show” fame).
Lamont also directed several classic Universal mammoth “Ma and Pa Kettle” feature film comedy masterpieces with Marjorie Main and Percy Kilbride; including “The Further Adventures of Ma and Pa Kettle” (1949, a.k.a. “Ma and Pa Kettle,” alongside Main and Kilbride with Richard Long and Meg Randall), “Ma and Pa Kettle Go to Town” (1950), Ma and Pa Kettle on Vacation (1953) and “Ma and Pa Kettle at Home” (1954).
Lamont’s classic mammoth Universal horror-comedy masterpiece production of “Abbott and Costello Meet Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde” was produced by veteran producer/assistant director Howard Christie, who also produced “Bud Abbott and Lou Costello Meet the Invisible Man” (1951), “Abbott and Costello Go to Mars” (1953), “Abbott and Costello Meet the Keystone Kops” (1955) and the duo’s final feature, “Abbott and Costello Meet the Mummy” (1955), the final Universal “Ma & Pa Kettle” feature film production of “The Kettles on Old MacDonald’s Farm” (1957) and the classic mammoth Universal sci-fi/creature feature masterpiece production of “The Monolith Monsters” (1957). In the latter part of his career, Christie also served as a producer and executive producer for the classic mammoth MCA-Revue/Universal/NBC TV western anthology masterpiece series of “Wagon Train” (Christie worked on the series from 1958-65) and five episodes of the latter season of the classic mammoth MCA-Universal/NBC TV western masterpiece series, “The Virginian” (Christie produced five episodes from 1969-70).
Inspired by Robert Louis Stevenson’s 1886 classic mammoth gothic literary novel masterpiece, “The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde;” the story idea for Lamont’s classic 1953 Universal/Abbott & Costello mammoth comedy-horror masterpiece was written by veteran screenwriters Howard Dimsdale, Sid Fields and Grant Garett. Dimsdale, Fields and Garett’s story idea for “Abbott and Costello Meet Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde” (1953) was adapted into a screenplay by veteran screenwriters John Grant and Lee Loeb.
This will mark Sven’s fifth big coast-to-coast broadcast of the 1953 classic mammoth Universal/Abbott & Costello/Jekyll & Hyde comedy-horror masterpiece on Me-TV.
