“Monster on the Campus” was directed by veteran Universal director Jack Arnold. He also worked on “It Came from Outer Space” (1953), “Creature from the Black Lagoon” (1954) and “The Incredible Shrinking Man” (1957).

The players who appeared in “Monster on the Campus” were Eddie Parker (in an uncredited role as the beast), Arthur Franz (as Professor Donald Blake), Joanna Moore (as Madeline Howard), Troy Donahue (as Jimmy Flanders), Judson Pratt (as Lt. Mike Stevens), Nancy Walters (as Sylvia Lockwood) and Whit Bissell (as Dr. Oliver Cole).
Earlier in 1958, Joanna Moore appeared in Orson Welles’ film noir drama that was released by Universal, “Touch of Evil” (Moore played the role of Marcia Linnekar in the film). Five years before “Monster on the Campus,” Arthur Franz previously appeared in Bud Abbott and Lou Costello‘s 1951 Universal comedic monster farce, “Abbott and Costello Meet the Invisible Man.”

According to the American Film Institute’s database entry for “Monster on the Campus,” the original working title for Jack Arnold’s 1958 Universal monster feature was “Monster in the Night.”

In addition to his work for the studio’s music department, he also worked as an executive producer for several Universal features throughout the 1940s, including “House of Dracula” (1945) and “The Time of Their Lives” (1946). Gershenson also worked as an associate producer on numerous Universal productions in the early 1940s under the pseudonym of “Joseph G. Sanford,” according to IMDB.
